COOKIE
Cookies are small text strings that websites visited by the user send to their device, where they are stored and then sent back to the same sites during subsequent visits by the same user. During navigation, the user may also receive cookies sent by other websites or web pages (see Italian Data Protection Authority Provision of May 8, 2014, No. 229).
To properly regulate these devices, it is essential to distinguish them based on the purposes pursued by those using them.
TECHNICAL COOKIES
Technical cookies are used solely for the purpose of transmitting a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide such service (see Article 122, paragraph 1 of the Italian Privacy Code and Provision No. 229/2014).
These include navigation or session cookies, which guarantee normal navigation and use of the website (e.g. allowing users to make purchases or log in to restricted areas).
The installation of these cookies does not require prior user consent.
PROFILING COOKIES
Profiling cookies are designed to create user profiles and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user during online browsing.
Given their intrusive nature, the user’s prior consent is required for their installation, as outlined in Article 122 of the Italian Privacy Code.
ANALYTICS COOKIES
They are used to monitor how users interact with the website, providing statistical reports that can help the site owner optimize its performance. One of the most commonly used tools for web analytics is Google Analytics, a service provided by Google Inc. that collects browsing statistics. The Italian Data Protection Authority has clarified that these cookies may be classified as technical cookies if the user’s IP address is anonymized (even partially) and data sharing with Google is disabled. Otherwise, such cookies are categorized as profiling cookies.
Our company has taken steps to partially anonymize users’ IP addresses and limit the data accessible to Google through Analytics tools.
Each type of cookie can be either first-party (i.e., processed and managed directly by the website owner) or third-party (i.e., installed and managed by entities other than the website owner).
Third-party cookies include social media plugins which are embedded on the social media page (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Tumblr) via the website and generate cookies in the process.
The management of data collected by third parties is governed by their respective privacy policies, which you are encouraged to review.
